According to some scholars, All Hallow's Eve initially incorporated traditions from pagan harvest festivals and festivals honoring the dead, particularly the Celtic Samhain and other scholars maintain the feast originated entirely independently of Samhain. Typical Halloween activities include trick or treating, attending costume parties, carving jack-o-lanterns, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories and watching horror movies.`

New York's Halloween Village Parade

Taking place on Halloween night since 1973, the Village Halloween Parade is the largest Halloween celebration in the world with over 50,000 marchers participating each year. Anyone in costume can participate in the parade (you don't even need to pre-register), but it's also an amazing experience for spectators who enjoy watching the amazing costumes and performances as the parade works its way up 6th Avenue.
